UTAH NOTES
Utah Softball hosts California this weekend for three noon-time contests

UTAH NOTES
- Utah stayed at No. 15 in the latest NFCA/USA Today and ESPN/USA Softball national rankings.
 
- Utah was No. 11 in the NFCA/USA Today poll on 3/21. It was the highest ranking in program history.
 
- Utah ranks 16th nationally with a team batting average of .330. It also places 21st in scoring (6.1 runs per game) and 24th in on-base percentage (.405)
 
- Hannah Flippen recently surpassed the 200-hit and 100-RBI plateaus for her career. Last weekend, she set a new Utah mark for runs scored during her career, previously held by Sandy Rhea (177, 1995-98).
 
- Flippen currently sits third in the Pac-12 in slugging percentage (.750) and runs batted in (33), fourth in on-base percentage (.505), fifth in doubles (9), sixth in batting average (.427) and ninth in runs scored (28).
 
- Anissa Urtez recently surpassed 200 hits for her career and currently owns the fifth-highest batting average among Pac-12 players (.433)
 
- She also ranks 10th in the league in runs driven in (29). With 39 doubles, she is two shy of moving into the top-five all-time at Utah
 
 - With 33 runs batted in, Heather Bowen ranks third in the Pac-12. Combined with Flippen, Utah is the only school with two players ranking among the top four in runs batted in.
 
- Delilah Pacheco has done a fantastic job in the leadoff spot, ranking fifth in the Pac-12 in walks (18). She reached base six times in 10 trips to the plate last weekend.
 
- Utah currently ranks 14th in the nation with a combined team ERA of 1.57. All three pitchers rank among the top 11 in the Pac-12 in ERA
 
- Katie Donovan is fourth in the Pac-12 with 13 wins and picked up the 50th of her career vs. Stanford. She ranks seventh in strikeouts, recently surpassing 300 K's for her career, and has also notched two saves
 
- Defensively, Utah leads the league in double plays turned with 16. That ranks 18th nationally comes after placing second in the nation last season.
 
- The Utes are one of seven Pac-12 teams ranked among the top 25 nationally in the RPI
 
VIRAMONTES NAMED PAC-12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Utah's Miranda Viramontes was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week by the conference office on Mar. 21.
 
Viramontes won two of three games as Utah swept No. 10 UCLA on its home field, (2-0, 0.64 ERA). She limited the Bruins to one run on nine hits in 11 innings, striking out six and walking none.
 
She is 8-1 with a 1.29 ERA and recently notched the 200th strikeout of her career. She also ranks third nationally in walks per seven innings.
 
Viramontes threw a perfect game vs. CSU Bakersfield and has a propensity for winning big contests, turning in complete game victories this season over No. 13 Tennessee and No. 10 UCLA.
 
In last year's NCAA Tournament, she set the tone with 6 2/3 scoreless innings against Illinois, striking out six batters then had a career-high nine strikeouts in a complete game vs. No. 9 Kentucky. She also picked up her second save of the season when she closed the door on the ninth-ranked Wildcats.
 
A honorable mention All Pac-12 pick in 2015, she was named to the All-Freshman Team after being named Freshman of the Week once.
 
LAST WEEKEND
Utah swept Stanford for the second season in a row last weekend. The Utes averaged over eight runs a contest and batted .374 for the series.
 
Ally Dickman batted .600 for the weekend, pacing the Utes in slugging (.800) and on-base percentage (.714). Anissa Urtez (.545) and Bridget Castro (.500) also excelled at the plate.
 
In the circle, Katie Donovan notched two wins with 10 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched. Miranda Viramontes saw action in a pair of contests, earning a win, striking out seven and walking none
 
BARRERA NAMED PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Utah outfielder Alyssa Barrera was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Feb. 28 for her performances on the field at the Mary Nutter Classic.
 
The Chino Hills, California native led the team with four runs scored, a .438 batting average and also slugged .563. She reached base safely in her first 13 games and opened her collegiate career with an 11-game hit streak.
 
She is now 12th in the Pac-12 with a .390 batting average.
 
She currently ranks third in the Pac-12 and leads the Utes with 33 runs scored and along with teammate Ally Dickman is one of the three toughest players in the conference to strikeout.
 
FLIPPEN PEGGED AS SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Hannah Flippen was named as a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate softball. Thirty of the top NCAA softball student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected earlier this season.
 
For her career, Flippen owns the highest batting average of any Ute ever at .386 (Cyndee Bennett, .371, 1994-97).
 
Last season, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association named Flippen an All-American. The Ute second baseman was also named the 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year and tabbed as an Academic All-America First Team selection by CoSIDA.
 
Prior to the start of this season, Flippen was named to the USA Softball Player of the Year Watch List and also earned a spot on the US National Team.
