Utes Have Success in First Day of SDSU Invite

SAN DIEGO, Calif. –The University of Utah women's tennis team had a successful first day at the SDSU invite.

In doubles, Madison Tattini and Brianna Chisholm were victorious in the Flight A bracket defeating Caroline Williams and Kimberely Bhunu with a score of 6-4. They will face Shakhnoza Khatamova and Jennifer Moinard tomorrow in the second round. In Flight B, Whitney Hekking and Leah Heimuli defeated Isabella Franks and Elisabeth Desmarais with a score of 6-1. They will face
Nnena Nadozie and Magda Aubets in the second-round tomorrow.

In Flight C, No. 1 seeded Lindsay Hung and Taylor Calton were victorious against Marta Heinen and Stephanie Broussard, 6-1, and will face Ellen Ashley and Lauren Anderson tomorrow in the next round.

In Singles, Hung and Tattini both carded wins in the Flight B bracket. Hung defeated Eastern Washington's Louise Waite, 6-3, 6-4, and will face off against Niluka Madurawe from Stanford in the next round. Tattini beat out Alexandrina Chinikova from Marquette, 6-2, 6-2, and is set to match up against Nnena Nadozie from San Diego State in the next round.

The No. 1 seeded Emily Dush was then victorious in the Flight C bracket against Mackenzie Worsnop from Cal Poly, 6-0, 6-1, and will play against Monica Mainen from Colorado tomorrow. In Flight D, Whitney Turley topped Marta Heinen from Eastern Washington, 6-2, 6-0, and will match up against Grace Olyphantfrom Cal Poly in the second round.

In Flight E, No. 2 Taylor Calton and Anya Lamoreaux both carded wins for the Utes. Calton defeated Claire Bouquet fromCal Poly San Luis Obispo, 6-1, 6-1, and will face San Diego State's Agustina Rimoldi Godoy in the second round. Lamoreaux defeated Magda Aubets from San Diego State, 6-4, 6-1, and will face the No. 1 seeded Yasmin Mansourifrom Eastern Washington University in the next round.

Then in the Flight F singles bracket, Leah Heimuli defeated Ellen Ashley from San Diego State with a score of 6-4, 6-3, and is set to match up against Stephanie Broussardfrom Eastern Washington University in the next round.

The SDSU invite will continue tomorrow with the second rounds of singles and doubles, with results available on UtahUtes.com after the conclusion of play.
