SAN FRANCISCO—The Utah gymnastics team was picked No. 2 in the preseason Pac-12 Coaches' Poll announced today. Defending NCAA champion UCLA was projected to win the 2019 Pac-12 title, receiving 49 total points to Utah's 42 points. The Bruins earned seven first place votes with Utah picking up the other.

The Utes have won three Pac-12 titles (2014, 2015, 2017) since joining the conference, while placing second three times and third once. They are the only program to finish in the top three at every Pac-12 Conference championship.

Following UCLA and Utah in the 2019 Pac-12 preseason coaches' poll were California (36), Oregon State (30), Washington (27), Stanford (17), Arizona State (16) and Arizona (7). Seven Pac-12 teams were ranked in the national preseason top 25: No. 1 UCLA, No. 5 Utah, No. 8 California, No. 15 Washington, No. 17 Oregon State, No. 20 Arizona State and No. 21 Stanford.

Utah and UCLA have each won three Pac-12 championships—Utah in 2014, '15 and '17 and UCLA in 2012,'16 and '18. Oregon State won in 2013. This year marks the sixth time the Utes have been the preseason No. 2 pick. Utah was projected to place first in 2015 and 2016.

The Utes open their season on Saturday, Jan. 5 against Penn State in the Huntsman Center. The meet starts at 4 p.m.
