TUCSON, Ariz. – The Utah men's golf team finished in a tie for ninth place at the National Invitational Tournament after carding its lowest round of the 2017-18 season on Monday to close out the two-day event at the OMNI Tucson National in Tucson, Ariz.
Utah posted a season-best round of 12-under par (276) during the third round of play to finish the tournament with a two-day score of 8-under par (291-289-276=856). The Utes finished in a tie for ninth place with New Mexico State (-8).
"Today was a lot better! We played really good golf top to bottom. It was nice to see," said Ute head coach
Garrett Clegg. "Blake shot a phenomenal bogey free 66, which included holing a wedge shot from 80 yards out. Tristan turned things around and shot 69 which was huge for us. I believe we moved up three spots in the field and did a great job fighting today. Hopefully that will help us turn things around for this weekend at the University of Michigan's tournament in Scottsdale."
UNLV (-50) won the event, while Arizona State (-38) placed second and tournament host, Arizona (-34), finished in third place. Rounding out the top-five teams at the NIT, North Texas (-28) and Iowa State (-24) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
