BANDON, Ore. – The Utah men's golf team moved up one spot in the team standings after the second day of play to sit in second place heading into the final 18 holes of the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore.
Utah registered another solid day of play on Monday after the Utes recorded 7-under par (277) on the Pacific Dunes Course at the Bandon Dunes Resort. Utah currently sits at a two-day score of 12-under par (279-277=556) and is just five strokes back of current leader, No. 22-ranked Arizona State (-17).
"We were really solid today," said Ute head coach
Garrett Clegg. "Got off to a rough start but finished really strongly. Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be absolutely brutal. We need to be able to handle the elements to finish off a very good tournament."
Santa Clara (-9) is in third place, while Washington State (-8) and No. 15-ranked Clemson (-8) are in a tie for fourth place behind the Utes and Sun Devils to round out the top-five teams in the 14-team field.
Junior
Kyler Dunkle registered 2-under par (69) in the second round to have a combined score of 8-under par (65-69=135). Dunkle heads into the final round of action in second place, just one stroke behind the current tournament leader, Arizona State's Chun An Yu.
"Kyler had another very solid round of golf. He got off to a terrible start, but shot 30 on his final nine holes to post a really good score," Clegg said.
Freshman
Blake Tomlinson posted the best round of the day for Utah, carding 4-under par (67) on Monday. Tomlinson is in a tie for 10
th place with a two-day score of 4-under par (71-67=138).
Freshman
Tristan Mandur notched even par (71) in the second round to have a combined score of 1-over par (72-71=143) and sit in a tie for 26
th place. Sophomore
Jordan Costello was one of three Utes on Monday to notch a round under par, finishing 1-under par (70) on the day. Costello is currently in a tie for 37
th place with a combined score of 2-over par (74-70=144).
"Blake played great and made a couple bogeys late, but overall had a fantastic 67. Jordan and Tristan each had solid rounds to help us move up the leaderboard," Clegg added.
Junior
Nathan Wunderli shot 5-over par (76) in the second round to have a combined score of 5-over par (71-76=147). Wunderli heads into Tuesday's play in a tie for 55
th place.
Participants at the Bandon Dunes Championship will begin the final 18 holes at 8:30 a.m. PT in a shotgun start. Live stats are available via golfstat.com.
