SAN FRANCISCO – The Utah men's golf team moved up five spots in the team standings on day two of The Goodwin, sitting in a tie for 19
th place following the second round of action at the TPC Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco, Calif.
Utah posted a score of 2-over par (286) in Friday's second round on the par-71, 7,143-yard course. The Utes sit at a combined score of 16-over par (298-286=584) heading into the final round.
"We played a lot better today," said head coach
Garrett Clegg. "We still have a lot to clean up, but it was good to see Tristan, Blake, and Jordan play a lot better. Tomorrow with a good round we can improve our spot on the leaderboard."
No. 9 Oklahoma sits atop the 26-team field following a second round of 15-under par to have a combined score of 20-under par. No. 11 California (-15) is in second place, No. 31 Oregon (-10) follows in third place, while No. 20 Stanford (-8) and No. 24 UNLV (-7) round out the top-five teams in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Junior
Kyler Dunkle sits in a tie for 57
th place after registering a round of 4-over par (75) to have a two-day score of 3-over par (70-75=145).
Sophomore
Jordan Costello and freshman
Blake Tomlinson are in a tie for 65
th place after both golfers notched rounds of even par (71) on Friday. Costello and Tomlinson both have combined scores of 4-over par after both Utes recorded 4-over par (75) in Thursday's first round.
Freshman
Tristan Mandur registered the best round of the day for Utah, carding a second round score of 2-under par (69). Mandur is tied for 72
nd overall with a combined score of 5-over par (78-69=147).
Freshman
Andrew Crockett carded 4-over par (75) in the second round to have a combined score of 13-over par (80-75=155). Crockett heads into Saturday's final round tied for 126
th place.
The Utes will complete action at The Goodwin beginning Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. PDT. Crockett will lead off the Utes on the No. 1 tee at 7:30 a.m., while Mandur will tee off at 7:41 a.m., Costello to follow at 7:52 a.m., Tomlinson at 8:03 a.m., and Dunkle at 8:14 a.m. to round out the five-man team.
