SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Athletics will hold the inaugural "All A's" dinner this evening to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of its student-athletes.
Utes that earned a 3.70 GPA or higher during the Fall 2017 semester will be celebrated. Of the 80 student-athletes recognized this evening, the women's track and field program leads the line with 19 honorees.
"We are excited to recognize this group of student-athletes who are great representatives for the University of Utah and the athletic department," Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Support Service and Senior Woman AdministratorÂ
Nona Richardson said. "Student-Athletes are often recognized for their accomplishments on the field of play, but rarely do we recognize the successes in the classroom."
In the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate report, Utah attained its highest mark ever with 90-percent of student-athletes graduating within six years from the time they enrolled as freshmen.
Utah's student-athletes are graduating at a higher rate than the U's general student population by nine percentage points (68%-59%) over a four-year period. The single-year GSR showed an even greater differential, with 74-percent of Utah's student-athletes graduating in 2016-17 compared to 53-percent of the general student population.
Utah had the best, or tied for the top GSR, in the Pac-12 in eight sports and all of them achieved a perfect score (men's basketball, men's golf, men's skiing, men's tennis, women's basketball, gymnastics, women's tennis and volleyball).
Eleven Utah teams; baseball, men's basketball, football, golf, men's skiing, men's tennis, women's basketball, cross country/track, gymnastics, women's tennis and volleyball, exceeded the overall Division I GSR for their sport.
