SALT LAKE CITY—The Utah gymnasts found a new way to celebrate a season that concluded with another Super Six appearance. On May 22, the gymnasts, coaches and staff gathered at Sugarhouse Park, where they played outdoor lawn games before holding a cookout and reminiscing about the season.
Â
Co-head coaches
Tom Farden and
Megan Marsden spent time thanking their staff and team for a successful season that saw the Utes place fifth at the NCAA Championships. They also presented the team awards, which went to
MyKayla Skinner (MVP),
MaKenna Merrell-Giles (Coaches' Most Improved),
Missy Reinstadtler (Dahl Academic-Athletic) and
Maddy Stover (Greg Marsden Leadership).
Â
Skinner, Reinstadtler and Stover were repeat winners in their respective awards categories. Skinner, the 2018 NCAA vault champion, is just the second Ute ever named team MVP as a freshman and sophomore, joining Ashley Postell, who was a four-time Ute MVP from 2005-08. Reinstadtler becomes the fourth Utah gymnast to win the team's academic-athletic award in her first two seasons. Stover has won the leadership award all three years of its existence, sharing the award with
Baely Rowe in 2017 and winning it outright in 2016 and 2018.
Â
The team said goodbye to three outgoing seniors: Stover,
Tiffani Lewis and
Erika Muhaw.
