WEEKLY NOTES: Utah Men's Golf Notes
The Utah men's golf team heads to the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational to defend its title from a year ago. Hosted by Colorado, Utah will compete in the two-day event on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 24-25 at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo.
Utah will compete in a field of 14 teams which includes: Cal-Baptist, CSU-Fullerton, CSU-Northridge, Colorado, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Houston Baptist, Northern Colorado, Pacific, Southern Utah, Stephen F. Austin, UC-Riverside, and Utah State.
Utah's line-up this week will consist of: Senior Kyler Dunkle
, juniors Jordan Costello
and Mitchell Schow
, sophomore Blake Tomlinson
, and freshman Axel Einarsson
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 24, with a shotgun start beginning at 8:15 a.m. MT. The final 18 holes of the Mark Simpson Invitational will be played on Tuesday in a staggered shotgun format. The top four teams following Monday's first two rounds will play in five tee times off the No. 1 tee beginning at 7:55 a.m. MT with the rest of the field in a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. MT.

Utah brought the hardware home at the Showdown in the Rockies after finishing 22-under par (874) as a team for the Utes' inaugural event to finish in first place in the 10-team field. The Utes have now notched two regular season tournament titles in the last two seasons after having only recorded five titles since 1990.
The Utes also claimed the Showdown in the Rockies individual champion in senior Kyler Dunkle
. Dunkle registered three straight rounds under par, including a round of 66 that tied the course record at Huntsman Springs, to win the event for his second career first place finish.
EAGLES FOR EINARSSON
In just two events, freshman Axel Einarsson
has notched four eagles on the year. Three of the freshman from Sweden eagles came during last week's Showdown in the Rockies, which included a hole-in-one. Einarsson leads the nation through two events with his four eagles on the year.
BACK NINE BIRDIES
In the last nine holes of the Showdown in the Rockies, the Utes controlled the course as four Utes combined to shoot 16-under in the final nine holes of the event to pull away from the rest of the field. Dunkle shot five-under on the back nine, Einarsson went 3-under, Jordan Costello
carded four-under, and Tristan Mandur
notched four-under on the final nine to push the Utes to victory.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah hosted the Showdown in the Rockies this last Monday and Tuesday in Driggs, Idaho, at Huntsman Springs Golf Course. Utah finished the event with a score of 22-under par (279-289-274=842). Utah's round of 274 was the lowest of the event and the lowest since the Utes recorded 274 back at the Wolfpack Classic in 2003.

picked up a top-10 finish, placing in a tie for ninth overall at 2-under par (68-78-68=214).
The Utes will travel to compete in the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills running Sunday, Sept. 30, through Tuesday, Oct. 2. The three-day event will be held at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis.
