SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics Championship is headed to West Valley City for the next three years, the Pac-12 and the Maverik Center announced today. The multi-year partnership, which runs from 2019-21, will provide a neutral-site venue for the championship for the first time in conference history. The Utah Sports Commission and Visit Salt Lake will also be involved with the event.
Â
In addition to offering a neutral site to the competitors, the Maverik Center will feature a podium equipment set up, which appealed to the Pac-12 schools since the NCAA Championships are conducted on podium.
Â
"Holding our championships on podium at a neutral site will help keep the Pac-12 schools on a level playing field with the other top teams in the nation," said Utah head coach
Tom Farden. "We are grateful to the Maverik Center and West Valley City for investing in our sport to make this a reality."
Â
"The Pac-12 is thrilled to bring one of our premiere events to the Salt Lake Valley," said Pac-12 Senior Associate Commissioner Teresa Gould. "With a rich tradition of excellence across the sport and a strong following among Utah's community, we look forward to this showcase featuring some of the top gymnasts in the world competing at Maverik Center."
Â
"The Maverik Center of West Valley City is honored to host the Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics Championship," said Maverik Center CEO Kevin Bruder. "Our community looks forward to hosting such an elite and esteemed event."
Â
The Utes have three Pac-12 Championships and three runner-up finishes in the seven-year history of the Pac-12 Championship. Utah's Pac-12 titles were in Berkeley (2014), Salt Lake City (2015) and Stanford (2017). The Utes hosted the 2012 Pac-12 Championship twice in the Huntsman Center, finishing second to UCLA in 2012 and placing first in 2014. UCLA has three Pac-12 titles (2012, 2016, 2018), while host Oregon State won the 2013 title. Utah is the only program to finish in the top three every year.
Â
The Maverik Center can seat more than 9,000 for women's gymnastics and has hosted numerous marquee events over its 20-year history, including the ice hockey championships at the 2002 Winter Olympics. It is home to the Utah Grizzlies, an affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche.

The 2019 Pac-12 Gymnastics Championship will be held on Saturday, Mar. 23 in the Maverik Center. Ticketing information will be available soon
