SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah track and field team is back on the road again as they prepare for this weekend's meet at the New Mexico Team Invitational. Hosted by the University of New Mexico, the one day meet will take place on Saturday, Jan. 26th, at the Albuquerque Convention Center with competition scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. (MST).Â
Â
"It's going to be sprints, jumps, hurdles, and the multi-event girls who is really going to compete this weekend or some form of that," head coach Kyler Kepler explained. "We are just really excited for this group to get in there and get up against some high-quality competition and kind of get pushed to their limits and see how it goes," Kepler said.Â
Â
Competing for the Utes include:
Skyler Blair,
Eliza Hansen, Raynee Helm Wheelock,
Whitney Hessler,
Brooklyn James, Maya Lebar,
Brooke Martin,
Jackie Martin,
Lauren O'Banion,
Taylor Watson, and
Mesa Weidle.Â
Â
Utah will start the meet off with senior
Eliza Hansen competing in the women's high jump and will end the meet with their largest number of runners competing in the women's 4x400-meter relay. Competing in the relay will be Blair, Hessler, James, Lebar, B. Martin, J. Martin, O'Banion, and Weidle.Â
Â
Last time out the Utes competed at the Ed Jacoby Invitational in Boise, Idaho, where true freshman
Taylor Watson recorded another school record in the 60-meter dash. This is the second school record she has recorded this season, the first being at the Weber State Winter Open where she recorded a new school record in the 55-meter dash. Utah left the Ed Jacoby Invite with three event titles in the 600-meter run, mile run and 4x400-meter relay.Â
Â
"We've had a great start. Maybe as good as start as we've ever had at least in numerous years and in terms of across the board competitiveness, across the board winning races, winning heats, and having a school record the first time out I think is really impressive as well," Kepler said.
