Provo Out For Season With ACL Injury
Senior Daneesha Provo to miss the remainder of the season.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – University of Utah women's basketball head coach Lynne Roberts announced today that senior wing Daneesha Provo will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL that she sustained against Arizona State on Friday.
"This is obviously a very difficult blow for Daneesha, who is one of the top players in the Pac-12, and on our team," Roberts said. "I know with Daneesha's will and determination, she will get through this and be back as a top-level player. It is very tough for our team to lose Daneesha's ability and leadership, but we still have our goals ahead of us and we will continue to work to accomplish those."
Even though she is known for her offensive prowess, Provo improved on the defensive side of the ball as well, leading the team in steals this season while ranking in the top-10 in the Pac-12. At the time of the injury, Provo was averaging 13.5 points and 2.1 steals per game.
The Utes are 13-1 overall this season and 2-1 in conference play after a dominating 80-64 win over Arizona on Sunday afternoon. Utah currently ranks in the top-20 nationally in scoring margin, free throw percentage, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, rebounding margin, assists per game and assists/turnover ratio.
Utah returns to action this week when they travel to Pullman, Wash. to take on Washington State on Friday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. MT.
