MONTEREY, Calif. – The Utah men's golf team wrapped up its last tournament of 2019 by finishing in 12
th place at the Saint Mary's Invitational. The team shot 5-over par (289) on the final 18 holes to give them a tournament score of 16-over par (866).
"I'd say it was kind of frustrating for the team," head coach
Garrett Clegg said. "We did a lot of things really well, but we didn't quite make the putts we needed to make. It just wasn't our best day and we weren't thrilled with it, but that's golf and so we go home and work to get better."
A huge positive for the team today was the play of senior
Mitchell Schow after he shot 3-under par (68) in the third round, the fourth time this season he has shot under 70 in a round. He was able to rise 18 spots on the leader board to finish in a tie for sixth overall (4-under par, 209), finishing in the top 10 for the second time this season.
Junior
Blake Tomlinson was the second-highest ranked Ute, sitting in a tie for 29
th after shooting 1-over par (214) after three rounds. Tomlinson shot 1-over par (72) on the final 18 holes.
Tristan Mandur finished tied for 60
th, carding 5-over par (76) in the final round to give him a tournament score of 7-over par (220). Redshirt sophomore
Colton Tanner finished the tournament as Utah's individual competitor, shooting 8-over par (221) to tie for 63
rd in the tournament after carding 5-over par (76) on the final 18.
True freshman
Jesper von Reedtz saved his best round for last, carding 2-over par (73) which allowed him to climb up the leader board by seven spots. For the tournament, he shot 13-over par (226) to tie for 75
th.
Jordan Costello was Utah's final competitor, but he sustained a wrist injury on the course and was unable to play the final nine holes of the third round.
The Saint Mary's Invitational was the final tournament of the year for the Utes. Utah will open spring play on Feb. 20 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.
