Utah Vault Notes: Having someone as incredible as Kari Lee lead off the lineup is a real bonus. Great looking
vault. She looked like she stuck the landing, but on the replay, she had the smallest of steps. There are a lot
of things blocking our view of the vault mat, so I'm guessing Macey Roberts' deduction was a step on the landing.
She had good amplltuide and distance. Alexia Burch landed short, running forward. She had the flu yesterday
and I just learned she is getting pulled from the floor lineup after that vault MaKenna Merrell-Giles threw a
beauty of a vault. High, good distance and form, nice landing. MyKayla Skinner just ROCKED that vault. One judge
gave it a 10.0. That's the best vault Kim Tessen has done since before her injury. Just a little step to the left
after landing. FYI, Lauren Wong did a really nice vault in exhibition.
Utah Bar Notes: Other than a step on her dismount, that was a great routine by Kari Lee. All handstands
were vertical, she swung the bars smoothly, release move was clean. Another really good routine by
Hunter Dula. Again, all handstands were straight, really stretched out her release move. Lucky warmups
don't count. Kim Tessen fell then, but boy did she hit when it counted. Stuck her dismount. Sorry for the slow
commentary. Internet is super slow. MaKenna Merrell-Giles had a nearly flawless routine. Great handstands, stuck her landing.
Missy Reinstadtler also swung the bars well. Her deduction came on her first handstand. MyKayla Skinner just soared on her
release move. She was SO high in the air, but caught the bar perfectly. Beautiful routine finished with a stuck dismount.
Utah Beam Notes: Ultimate team player Kari Lee, who is Utah's top-ranked beam worker and has four wins,
moved to No. 1 in the lineup to help the Utes get off to a good start. Her mistake was on a balance check
after her series. Sydney Soloski was counted down for a marginal connection and a step on her landing. Alexia
Burch fell on her series and Utah's beam woes continue. Freshman Adrienne Randall was poised under pressure.
Virtually no errors on the beam. Had a step on her landing. I'm not sure where the deductions were from. Really
nice routine by MaKenna Merrell-Giles. Solid on her series, leaps, twirls, etc. Stuck her landing cold. MyKayla Skinner
showed why she owns the universe. What an awesome routine. And she just nailed her double back dismount. Incredible.
Utah Floor Notes: Nice routine by Macey Roberts. Her deductions mostly came from stepping out of her pike
double back in the middle of the routine. Kim Tessen returns in style. Neither Jen White nor I knew what we
were looking at since she hasn't done floor in three years since before she was injured in 2017. I think the coaches
are inquiring on Kari Lee's routine, which looked gorgeous to me. One judge gave her a 9.90 and the other a 9.75, saying
it wasn't "up to level." If you didn't see Adrienne Randall's closing pike double back on the Pac-12 Networks, be sure to
watch the replay. She dropped out of the sky and landed it cold. Reminded me of Nansy Damianova aback in the day.
Sydney Soloski was supposed to get a rest from floor today, but with her scheduled replacement Alexia Burch ailing from
yesterday's bout with the flu, she jumped in and did a nice job. Deduction was for bouncing out of her second pass. MaKenna
Merrell-Giles ripped off a beautiful floor routine. Her passes ranged from great to perfect in my opinion. Great dance, tumbling and
leaps. PS-Kari Lee won her appeal and her score went up to a 9.875.
