Baseball Drops Midweek Contest Against Gonzaga, 5-3
Moeller and Tom Both Have Three Hits

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah baseball dropped its midweek contest 5-3 against Gonzaga on Tuesday, March 12.
 
The Utes led 2-1 going into the sixth inning, but a three-run home run proved to be enough for the Bulldogs to get the road win over the Utes.
 
Overall, Utah had 13 hits in the game with Rykker Tom and Zack Moeller each going 3-4 at the plate with an RBI.
 
Gonzaga scored first in the opening frame, but Utah answered scoring runs in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. In the fifth, Utah got the lead when Chase Fernlund hit his first career home run over the left field wall.
 
Starter Brett Brocoff found a rhythm in the middle innings retiring eight straight batters at one point, but Gonzaga got to him in the sixth, hitting a three-run home run to go up 4-2.
 
Both team's scored in the seventh and Utah threatened to score more in the eighth and ninth inning, but Gonzaga held on for the win.
 
Brocoff took his first loss of the year giving up four runs in 6.0 innings pitched. David Watson had a good appearance out of the bullpen pitching 2.0 innings and only surrendering one hit while having two strikeouts.
 
Now, Utah will turn its attention to Pac-12 play as it travels to Arizona for a weekend series beginning Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m.
