Utah Golf To Close Out Regular Season at ASU Thunderbird Collegiate

OFF THE TEE
The Utah men's golf team will close out the 2018-19 regular season this Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate. The 54-hole, two-day event will be held at the par 71, 7,333-yard Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.
 
THE FIELD
Utah will face stiff competition in the regular season finale with nine of the 13 teams competing at the event having made the NCAA Championship last year and five teams currently ranked in the top-25 by GolfWeek. The teams at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate are: No. 2 Arizona State, No. 22 Baylor, BYU, Colorado, Iowa State, Marquette, No. 23 North Carolina, No. 1 Oklahoma State, St. Mary's, No. 9 Texas, UCLA, UNLV, and Utah.
 
UTAH'S LINE-UP
Utah's five-man team for the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate is: senior Kyler Dunkle, sophomore Tristan Mandur, freshman Axel Einarsson, junior Jordan Costello, and sophomore Blake Tomlinson.
 
TOP-10 TALLY
Kyler Dunkle finished tied for seventh place at the Redhawk Invitational, which marked his fourth top-10 finish of the year and ninth of his Ute career. Dunkle moved into second place all-time at Utah with nine career top-10 finishes, which is tied with former Ute Jon Morgan, who also posted nine during the 1995-99 seasons. Dustin Pimm holds the record with 17 career top-10 finishes.
 
GOING UNDER
Utah posted 13-under par (271) in the final round of the Redhawk Invitational, which was the best round on the final day of any team in the 18-team field on the par-71 Chambers Bay course. The round of 13-under par was the second lowest round under par of the year for Utah, only coming in behind the second-round 14-under par (274) the Utes posted in the final round of the Showdown in the Rockies. All four of Utah's scorers in the final round shot par or better on the last day of the Redhawk Invitational.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
•Utah ranks fifth in the nation with 20 eagles recorded. Mitchell Schow ranks sixth in the nation with seven eagles, Dunkle is tied for 13th with six, while Tomlinson and Einarsson each have five eagles and are tied for 32nd in the nation.
•Utah ranks 10th in the nation with 481 birdies on the year. Dunkle paces the team and ranks 14th in the nation with 114 birdies recorded this year, while Tomlinson ranks 59th with 102 birdies.
•Utah ranks 25th on par-5 scoring with a 4.74 stroke average. Dunkle is 38th in the country on par-5 scoring with an average of 4.59 strokes.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Utah struggled to find its groove during the first 36 holes at the Redhawk Invitational and fell in the team standings early. However, on the final day of action, the Utes put together the best round of the day by any team and shot 13-under par to close out the event. Utah finished 10-under par (287-284-271=842) to finish in sixth place in the 18-team field at the Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash.
 
Dunkle finished in the top-10 for the fourth time on the year and the ninth of his career, placing tied for seventh place. Dunkle shot a combined 7-under par (206) to lead the Utes. Mandur placed in a tie for 15th overall after he posted a 54-hole score of 4-under par (209). Mandur posted a final round 8-under (63), which ties the lowest round under par all-time at Utah. The round of 63 is the second lowest round in school history.

UP NEXT
The Utes will head to the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships in Eugene, Ore. The conference tournament will run Monday through Wednesday, April 22-24, and take place at the Eugene Country Club.
