SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team was able to defeat the University of San Francisco earlier today, sweeping the Dons with a final score of 4-0. With this win, the Utes will now move to an overall record of 15-7 on the season.

"This was a perfect match to get back up to altitude, we played a very talented San Francisco team," said head coach Roeland Brateanu. "This match also provided us with a great opportunity to prepare for Cal and Stanford this weekend. We didn't play great, but we found ways to win. It was a competitive match and exactly what we needed to prepare for two tough conference opponents."

The Utes were able to start off the match strong as they were able to earn the doubles point against San Francisco. Slava Shainyan and David Micevski got things started on the No. 1 court, as they were able to knock off Phuc Huynh and Oz Daniel with a score of 6-2. Russell Benkaim and Joe Woolley then secured the point at the No. 3 position, as they defeated Nitzan Ricklis and Romeo Jivraj in a competitive match, with a score of 7-6.

In singles, Mathias Gavelin kept things rolling at the No. 5 spot, as he was able to top Oz Daniel 6-2, 6-3. No. 54 ranked Dan Little then recorded a singles victory of his own on the No. 1 court, defeating Ryan Marker with a score of 7-5, 6-1. Then at the No. 4 position, Benkaim secured the victory for the Utes with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Phuc Huynh, to give Utah the 4-0 sweep over the Dons.

The University of Utah men's tennis team will continue their home stand with two Pac-12 conference matches at the Eccles Tennis Center this weekend. The Utes will first take on No. 46 Cal on Saturday, with competition set to start at 2 p.m. MT. They will then wrap-up play for the weekend with a match against No. 12 Stanford on Sunday, with compeition also set to start at 2 p.m. MT.
