CORVALLIS, Ore. – Utah dropped both games of a double-header against No. 6 Oregon State on Saturday, April 6 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
After the Utes dropped the first game 11-0, they came back in the second game and got a great effort from starter Brett Brocoff, but ended up falling in the 11th, 3-2.
Utah led 2-0 until Oregon State tied up the score in the eighth. On their home field with it raining, the Beavers won it in the 11th with a single to right field.
Brocoff pitched 6.1 innings and only gave up one run on five hits. He had six strikeouts.
Both teams went scoreless until the sixth when Zack Moeller walked and Chandler Anderson got him home from second with a single.
The Utes added to their lead the next inning when Oliver Dunn knocked in Tyler Thompson for a 2-0 lead.
Oregon State responded though getting one run back in the seventh and then tied the score up in the eighth. The game ended up going into extras and Utah had hits in the ninth and tenth, but failed to get the lead back.
The Beavers had runners on first and second in the bottom of the 11th and got a single to close out the second game of the double-header.
Chase Fernlund led the way in the second game going 2-5.
Zac McCleve came in for Brocoff and pitched 4.0 innings and only gave up three hits and two runs.
In the first game, Oregon State took an early lead and Utah didn't get their bats going enough to make up the deficit as the hosts went on to win 11-0.
Next up, the Utes will play BYU in Provo, Utah on Tuesday, April 9. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
