SARASOTA, Fla. – MyKayla Skinner has been named a member of the 2019 Women's World Championships team, announced today by the USA Gymnastics Selection Committee. The U.S. Women's team is comprised of six athletes that will travel to Stuttgart, Germany to compete in the 2019 World Championships.
"We are thrilled with MyKayla's berth on the World Championships team," said Utah head coach
Tom Farden. "She once again has proved that her drive is second to none and her hyper-focus has been rewarded."
The World Championships team was selected based on performances at the 2019 American Classic, GK U.S. Classic, U.S. Championships, international competitions, and the World Team Selection Camp. All vying for a spot on the world's team, 13 gymnasts were a part of the selection camp in Sarasota, Fla.
With hopes of earning a berth on the roster, Skinner had a phenomenal day of competition on Sunday at the selection camp, finishing fourth in the all-around. Skinner finished third on vault, fifth on floor, sixth on bars, and eighth on beam, which led to a spot for Skinner on the World's Championship team.
Prior to the selection camp, Skinner has competed in the GK U.S. Classic and U.S. Championships since returning to elite. Making significant improvements every time she hits the competition floor, Skinner was named to the Senior National Team following the U.S. Championships and earned the opportunity to attend the selection camp.
Skinner will take the next step in her Olympic quest by traveling to Stuttgart, Germany to compete at the 2019 World Championships that will begin on Friday, Oct. 4.
