BOSTON – University of Utah men's basketball sophomore
Timmy Allen was named to the Lute Olson Mid-Season Watch List recently. The award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player.

Allen, who was 1-of-8 players added to the watch list, leads the league in scoring with a 21.1 points average to go with a 7.9 rebounding average. The 6-6 forward is also shooting .500 from the field and .772 from the free throw line – which is second best on the team. In addition, his 21.1 points average ranks 18th in the nation through games on Jan. 9 while his 88 made free throws is good for eight-most in the NCAA.

A product of Mesa, Ariz., Allen opened Pac-12 play last week with a pair of double-doubles and averaging 22.0 points and 10.5 rebounds through two conference games. He recorded a career-high 27 points, five rebounds and five assists in a come from behind win over in-state rival BYU in overtime 102-95. Allen also opened the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds at Nevada, becoming the first Ute to record a double-double in a season-opener since
Kyle Kuzma (Nov. 12, 2016).

2019-20 Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award will be announced in April 2020 in Atlanta, Ga., site of the men's Division I NCAA Basketball Championship.

Allen and the Utes begin a three-game road swing this Sunday, Jan. 12, when it battles No. 25 Colorado at 4 p.m. on ESPNU.
