SALT LAKE CITY – For the third week in a row, Utah has earned Skier of the Meet, the RMISA announced.
This week, it is
Samuel Hendry after he finished second in both races at the Denver Invitational.
In the 7.5K, Hendry just missed out on the win on the men's side finishing just .3 seconds behind the first place finisher. The next day he came back and also finished in second in the 10K.
Last week, it was announced late in the week that
Novie McCabe earned Skier of the Meet.
McCabe is off to a great start in her collegiate career by finishing first in the women's 5K freestyle race and third in the women's 15K classic race at Soldier Hollow. She narrowly beat out teammate
Sydney Palmer-Leger for the award, as they flipped spots with Palmer-Leger winning the classic race and finishing third in the freestyle.
With McCabe and Palmer-Leger tying, the combined times of the two races were taken into account. McCabe won the freestyle race by 24.4 seconds and had a 26.3 advantage over Palmer-Leger, who in turn won the classic race by 7.8 and had an 17.3 second advantage over McCabe.
The award is given to the skier who accumulates the most NCAA Qualification points in the two races within a meet, and skiers can only win once per season.
The Utes now have a small break now, but will be back racing in Aspen, Colorado on Friday, February 5.
