Utah Gymnasts Earn Top Seed At Seattle Regional

Red Rocks begin action at NCAA Regionals on March 31.
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Utah gymnastics team earned their NCAA Regional berth in the Seattle Regional as the No. 1 seed, the NCAA announced Tuesday morning. Utah will begin action in the NCAA Regional Second Round on Thursday, March 31, competing in the evening session at 8 p.m. MT at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Teams were seeded No. 1-16 based on National Qualifying Scores, while the remaining 20 qualifiers were placed in regions geographically. Joining Utah in the evening session will be No. 13 Oregon State, Illinois and the winner of the Stanford/San Jose State play-in meet on Wednesday, March 30. The afternoon semifinal of the second round at 2 p.m. MT will feature No. 5 Alabama, No. 12 Michigan State, BYU and Washington.
The top two finishing teams of each semifinal will advance into the NCAA Regional Final on Saturday, Apr. 2, at 6 p.m. MT. Following Saturday's competition, the top two finishers from the four regionals (Seattle, Norman, Raleigh, and Auburn) will advance to the 2022 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas on Apr. 16-18.
Utah Gymnastics is competing for a record 46th-consecutive national championship appearance. Utah is the only program in the nation to qualify for all 45 national championships and all 39 NCAA Championships (began in 1982).
The Red Rocks are coming off their second consecutive Pac-12 Championship last weekend and fifth since joining the conference. The conference title became the program's eighth overall after the Utes have claimed three-straight regular season championships. Utah posted a 198.000 at the Pac-12 Championships, marking the third time the team has hit the 198-mark this season.
Grace McCallum was the Pac-12 uneven bars champion, as well as floor co-champion, and was also the runner-up in the all-around with a 39.675. Alexia Burch scored a 9.925 on vault to become the Pac-12 vault champion and Abby Paulson claimed her second-straight Pac-12 beam title with a meet-high 9.975. Maile O'Keefe was named the 2022 Pac-12 Specialist of the Year earlier in the day and tied for second place on beam and third on floor. The award marks back-to-back seasons of collecting a Pac-12 yearly award after she was named the 2021 Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year.
