NEWBURY, N.H. – Former Utah cross country and track & field All-American
Grayson Murphy is back on the podium for the second-straight day after capturing her third USATF Mountain Running Championship title on Sunday at Mt. Sunapee Resort.
This is the third title for Murphy since 2019 in this race and second victory in as many days after claiming the
USATF Vertical Mountain Running Championships on Saturday, April 29. With her win on Saturday, Murphy earned a spot to represent Team USA in the second World Mountain and Trail Running Championships – which will be held in Austria from June 6-10.
Sunday's race had competitors start at the base of the mountain and run two loops on the 4.1 mile course with about 3000 feet of elevation amassed in the 8.2 mile race. Murphy and the rest of the field also faced windy conditions on Sunday with temps in the 40s.
Murphy crossed the finish line with a time of 1:08.56 (7:40 pace) and was nearly three minutes faster than her next competitor, Allie McLaughlin, who won last year's inaugural World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Thailand. Additionally, Murphy's time was good for 18th among all racers (male/female).
