ATLANTA – The University of Utah Lacrosse program is just 17 days out from starting the 2024 season, earning preseason praise from the ASUN after earning the top spot in the ASUN Coaches Poll along with two preseason player of the year nods. It is the third-straight season the Utes have earned at least a share of the No. 1 preseason ranking in the ASUN.
Jared Andreala was named ASUN Preseason Midfielder of the Year with
Joey Boylston receiving Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The duo were also selected to the Preseason All-ASUN Team with
Tyler Bradbury giving the Utes three spots on the list.
Andreala has played in 42 career games with 31 starts at Utah, earning All-ASUN second-team honors in 2023. Last season, he had 35 points (29 goals, 6 assists), which included a career-high six points (4 goals, 2 assists) against Cleveland State, also adding 29 ground balls and four caused turnovers on the year.
Boylston has been a mainstay for the Utah defense, starting in all 42 games he has appeared in. He was a first-team All-ASUN selection in 2023, contributing 54 ground balls, 24 caused turnovers and three assists.
Bradbury, a two-time All-ASUN first-team pick and the 2022 ASUN Offensive Player of the Year, has 46 career games with 43 starts to his name at Utah. He holds the school record in single-season points (62, 2022) and assists (33, 2022), and career points (157) and assists (81).
Utah will begin its third season in the ASUN this year, winning back-to-back regular season titles in 2022 and 2023, also coming away with the ASUN Championship in 2023 to earn its first-ever berth to the NCAA Championships. The Utes have gone undefeated in regular season ASUN games the last two seasons (14-0), outscoring their opponents 301-146.
Twenty-two of Utah's 34 program wins have come in the last two seasons (65%) with the Utes winning a school record 11 games in a row heading into the NCAA Championships in 2023. Last season, Utah was one of just five Division I schools that finished conference play undefeated with its win percentage ranking seventh nationally prior to postseason.
The Utes are headed into their fifth year as a Division I program after making the transition from a club team in 2019. Utah is 34-29 all-time as a Division I team with 22 of those victories coming under the direction of head coach
Andrew McMinn.
McMinn is entering his third year with the program and has a career record of 98-74 and a record of 22-9 at Utah. In the last two seasons, Utah has broken over 70 school records, including single-season points, goals, assists, ground balls, faceoff wins and team wins.
