IRVING, Texas – The University of the Utah swimming and diving team was awarded it's first Big 12 Weekly Award after
Elias Petersen's performance in the home opener against UNLV was rewarded with the Big 12 Men's Diver of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Junior diver
Elias Petersen earned his first Big 12 Men's Diver of the Week award after taking first on the one-meter and three-meter events in Utah's home opener against UNLV. The Malmo, Sweden native scored 376.73 on his six dives on 3m, but his 1m performance is the event he thrived on. In six dives on 1m, Petersen scored 393.15, just one point off the school record and more than 76 points ahead of the silver medalist. Both of Petersen's top finishes contributed to a Utah win of 187-113 for their home opener.
Petersen and the rest of the diving crew are headed to the Texas Diving Invite in Austin, Texas on Nov. 15-Nov. 17.
