The University of Utah Lacrosse team is set to play its second game and second top-10 opponent in five days, taking on the No. 6/8 Syracuse Orange on Wednesday, Feb. 21 in the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. The game is set for a 10 a.m. MT/12 p.m. ET start.

UTAH LACROSSE: NEED TO KNOWS
• Utah is coming off back-to-back ASUN regular season titles (2022, 2023), also winning the ASUN Championship in 2023 to earn its first NCAA Championships berth.
• Utah is in its sixth year as a Division I program.
• The Utes earned the top spot in the preseason ASUN Coaches Poll, the third straight year that Utah has earned at least a share of the No. 1 preseason ranking in the league.

Joey Boylston was named preseason ASUN Defensive Player of the Year while senior
Jared Andreala was named preseason Midfielder of the Year.
• Head coach Drew McMinn is two wins away from his 100
th career victory as a Division I men's lacrosse coach.
LAST TIME OUT
Unable to find offensive momentum stung the Utes as they fell to the No. 6 Denver Pioneers in their home opener on Saturday, Feb. 17, 16-8.

CAUSING CHAOS
Utah's defense continues to be known for its sticky sticks, recording 12 caused turnovers in the game against Ohio State to open the season along with six against No. 6 Denver.
• The Utes rank third in the ASUN in caused turnovers per game (9.00).
• Utah's 12 caused turnovers against the Buckeyes counted as the eighth time in the
Andrew McMinn era that the Utes have had 10+ caused turnovers in a game.
• Through the first two games, Utah has 11 players with at least one CTO, including the nine that had at least one against Ohio State.
• Senior
Joey Boylston has a team-high five caused turnovers through the first two games, recording four straight games with two-or-more, dating back to the 2023 season.
• The school record for caused turnovers in a game is 17, set at Lehigh in 2020.
SUCCESS FROM THE GROUND UP
Utah's ground ball game has been atop the ASUN since joining the league in 2022, and looks to continue to be a spot of success in 2024.
• The Utes rank fourth in the ASUN in ground balls per game (30.0).
• Utah has had 30 ground balls in back-to-back games against Ohio State and Denver with the Utes having 21 games in the McMinn era with 30+ GBs.
• Utah is 17-4 since 2022 when producing 30-or-more ground balls.
• Utah had 30-or-more ground balls in 12 straight games in 2023, the longest streak in school history.
• The school record for single-game ground balls is 55, which took place against Westminster in 2021.
WINNING WAYS
The Utes won its first ASUN Championship in 2023 with an 11-9 victory over Air Force to earn its first NCAA Championship berth. Utah has also won back-to-back ASUN regular season titles after going 5-0 in conference play in 2022 and 9-0 in 2023.
• Twenty-two of Utah's 34 program wins came in 2022 and 2023 (65%) with the Utes winning a school record 11 games in a row heading into the NCAA Championships in 2023.
• Last season, Utah was one of just five Division I schools that finished conference play undefeated with its win percentage ranking seventh nationally prior to postseason.
YEAR 6
The Utes are in their sixth year as a Division I program after making the transition from a club team in 2019.
• Utah is 34-31 all-time as a Division I team with 22 of those victories coming under the direction of head coach
Andrew McMinn.
• McMinn is in his third year with the program and has a career record of 98-76 and a record of 22-11 at Utah.
• In 2022 and 2023, Utah broke over 70 school records, including single-season points, goals, assists, ground balls, faceoff wins and team wins.
RECORD BREAKERS
Since the
Andrew McMinn era began in 2022, the Utes have broken over 70 school records in just 33 games.
• In back-to-back seasons (2022, 23), Utah has broken records for single-season points (418 in 2023, 314 in 2022), goals (274 in 2023, 191 in 2022), assists (144 in 2023, 123 in 2022), ground balls (633 in 2023, 442 in 2022), face-offs won (295 in 2023, 2022 in 209) and total wins (12 in 2023, 10 in 2022).
• In 2023, Utah also broke the single-game records for points (38 at Robert Morris), goals (26 at Robert Morris), assists (14 vs. Mercer), face-off wins (31 at Robert Morris) and face-off win percentage (.913 vs. Air Force).
