Jaylene Gilstrap has announced her intent to return for a fifth year with Utah Gymnastics. Gilstrap will use her extra year of eligibility for another season, returning to the Red Rocks as the final year of COVID-19 exemption granted by the NCAA.

Establishing herself as a regular in the Utah lineup on floor at the end of her sophomore season, earning starts in the final nine meets of the season, before becoming a regular starter in each meet in her junior and senior seasons. Since becoming a staple in the Utah floor lineup, Gilstrap has made an appearance on vault and beam for the Red Rocks. She most recently captured her first career win as a Red Rock on floor event at Arizona, posting a new career-high score with a 9.950.

Closing out her sophomore season, Gilstrap posted a 9.8625 in the NCAA Final on floor, which counted towards the team score. During her junior season, the McKinney, Tex., native made her way into the Utah vault and beam lineups. Competing on vault 15 times as a junior and six more times in her true senior season, Gilstrap set her career-high of 9.925 this season against Oregon State. During her time in the Utah lineup, she has hit 65 of 67 routines, coming off a flawless junior campaign that saw her hit 31 of 31 routines.

The Ute senior is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection and is majoring in Communications. She was a member of the team's leadership council during her sophomore season, earning the Dahl Academic-Athletic Award and Utah's Marsden Leadership Award that season. In 2023, she was the recipient of the Utah's Coaches Award. In the classroom, Gilstrap has been named a three-time WGCA Scholastic All-American so far in her career.

Gilstrap and the fifth-ranked Utah gymnastics team will prepare for their final home meet of the season this Friday, March 15, against No. 25 Stanford and Utah State. The Utes, Aggies, and Cardinal will compete at 7 p.m. MT in Salt Lake City and the meet will be senior night.
