LAS VEGAS – With the postseason in full swing, so is awards season as they begin to stream in for Utah men's basketball center
Branden Carlson – who was recently named to the Associated Press All-Pac-12 Second-Team Tuesday afternoon.
Â
This is the second-straight year Carlson has been to the AP all-conference team, earning first-team honors last season. The honor comes after garnering his third-straight All-Pac-12 award earlier Tuesday morning when the league announced its end of season awards.
Â
Carlson finished the regular-season averaging 17.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.6 blocks for the Runnin' Utes – who are set to open the Pac-12 Tournament this Wednesday, March 13, at 9:30 p.m. (MDT) / 8:30 p.m. (PDT) on Pac-12 Networks against Arizona State inside T-Mobile Arena. The 7-footer currently leads the team in three of those four categories while sitting in third in overall shooting percentage (min. 100 FGA) with a .488 clip and third from the 3-point line (min. 100 3FGA) with a .371 shooting clip. Meanwhile, his 51 assists on the season so far is fifth-most on the team.
Â
The South Jordan native has reached double-digit points in 23-of-30 games played this season – including trio of 30-plus point games as well as 40-point performance on the road against Oregon State. His 40-point performance was the first time a Runnin' Ute had reached those heights since Keith Van Horn did it back in 1996-97. Meanwhile, his four games of 30-plus points was tops in the Pac-12 this season.
