SALT LAKE CITY -- For the second consecutive year, University of Utah standout fifth-year senior gymnast
Maile O'Keefe has been named one of six finalists for the 2024 AAI Award, which recognizes the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country. The honor is voted on by NCAA women's gymnastics head coaches and sponsored by American Athletic, Inc.
O'Keefe joins Luisa Blanco (Alabama), Haleigh Bryant (LSU), Audrey Davis (Oklahoma), Gabby Wilson (Michigan) and Raena Worley (Kentucky) as this year's finalists for the AAI Award. O'Keefe's nomination in 2023 was the first time a Red Rock had been named a finalist for the award since Baely Rowe in 2017. Utah's most recent AAI Award winner was Georgia Dabritz in 2015. The American Athletic, Inc. will announce the winner next month at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Las Vegas native added to her already impeccable Red Rocks Resume, when she scored her third 10.0 on beam this season to mark her 14
th career Perfect 10, which ties Theresa Kulikowski atop the storied Utah Gymnastics record books for most career 10.0s in school history. As a four-time national champion, O'Keefe won the 2021 national titles on both bars and floor, adding beam and an all-around title in 2023 to her list of accomplishments making it the sixth time in school history a Utah gymnast has won two national titles in the same year.
She leads the Utes as a 16-time All-American between the regular season and postseason. O'Keefe was the 2021 Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year and was the Pac-12 all-around champion, as well as the Pac-12 champion on bars, beam, and floor. She added back-to-back Pac-12 Specialist of the Year awards to her tally in 2022 and 2023, moving on to claim her second regional beam title in 2023 at the Los Angeles Regional.
O'Keefe has hit 209 out of 212 routines throughout her Red Rock career, collecting 74 career wins to lead the team throughout her career along the way. She is a seven-time Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week, which is the second most in a career by a Ute since joining the league. As a staple of one of the nation's top beam teams throughout her career, O'Keefe is currently ranked No. 2 in the country on the apparatus with an NQS (National Qualifying Score) of 9.985, posting scores of 9.950 and above in six of nine routines.
Along with serving as a team captain in the gym, O'Keefe is also a leader in the classroom as she is a three-time WCGA Scholastic All-American, three-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, and a member of the 2022 and 2023 CSC Academic All-District Team. She completed her degree in kinesiology following the 2023 academic year and is currently working towards completing the Positive Psychology Certificate during the 2023-24 academic year.
