SALT LAKE CITY – The Big 12 Conference welcomes the University of Utah as a new member in 2024-25, and the conference announced today a celebration of community impact and empowerment events called
Big 12 Homecoming, scheduled for Sept. 5-7, 2024. The series of events is built around Utah's home football game against Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Big 12 Homecoming will feature a local elementary school makeover on Thursday, Sept. 5, a women's empowerment event on Friday, Sept. 6 and a tailgate party on Saturday, Sept. 7.
School Makeover Reveal, Sponsored by the College Football Playoff Foundation
Thursday, Sept. 5
Location: Newman Elementary School
What: The Big 12 partnered with the College Football Playoff Foundation's Extra Yard for Teachers Makeover Project to fund a library makeover at Newman Elementary School in the Salt Lake City School District. Utah student-athletes, along with Swoop and the Utes' spirit squad, will be on-hand to help celebrate the makeover reveal.
"Be You" Women's Empowerment Community Event, Sponsored by Allstate
Friday, Sept. 6 |
3-6 p.m.
Location: Univ. of Utah A. Ray Olpin Student Union Center Ballroom
What: A women's empowerment event for all community and campus members.
- Three panels; two sponsored by the Big 12 (Sports Illustrated Swim & WWE) and one sponsored by Utah Athletics (Breaking Barriers in Sport) will occur throughout the event.
- The panels will feature elite talent from WWE, SI Swim and leading women in business. They will provide inspirational discussions around well-being and self-advocacy for all of those in attendance.
- Tarte Cosmetics, campus partners, and women-owned local companies will have booths to engage the community during the panels, including a voter registration station.
- Utah Athletics will provide ticket giveaways for fans to attend the Utah Volleyball team's home match against Purdue directly following the event.
Tailgate Party

11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Location: Smith's Tailgate Tent, corner of Guardsman Way & 500 South, Salt Lake City
What: DJ Press Play will host a DJ party directly prior to Utah's football game against Baylor to excite fans for the game and celebrate the Utes' entrance to the Big 12. Fans who attend will enjoy music and giveaways from supporting sponsors Old Trapper and Totino's.
