SALT LAKE CITY – The academic performance by Utah's student-athletes in the fall of 2024 ranks among the best in the department's history, with the combined grade-point-average of 3.402 ranking third all-time. It is the department's best for a fall semester, ranking behind only the 3.573 figure from Spring 2020 and the 3.427 GPA from Spring 2021.
Â
Utah Athletics has now achieved 37 consecutive semesters with a departmental GPA of 3.00 or higher.
Â
A record 257 student-athletes—50.1%--made the Dean's List with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, topping the mark of 235 from the Fall 2023 semester and exceeding 50-percent for the first time. In addition, 392 student-athletes (76.4%) were named to the A.D.'s Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
"It is tremendously gratifying to see our student-athletes consistently demonstrate such excellence in their academic pursuits, while striving for championships and managing all of their responsibilities," said
Mark Harlan, Director of Athletics. "They are elite in all aspects of their lives, and continue to reflect the values of the University of Utah and Utah Athletics. Those who support our student-athletes need look no further than this spectacular fall GPA and our recently-announced Graduation Success Rate of 95-percent to see the results of their investment, and we are very grateful."

Alongside the third-best GPA in department history, the achievements of Utah's fall sports programs included the volleyball program returning to the NCAA tournament and the women's cross-country program finishing in the top 20 at the NCAA Championships for the third year in a row. Volleyball earned the right to host the NCAA first and second rounds, capping a fantastic season that saw the Utes reach as high as No. 17 in the AVCA rankings, finish third in the Big 12, and record 25 wins—the program's most since 2008. The soccer program earned its highest winning percentage since 2016 and finished with a winning record in its first year in the Big 12 Conference, while the football program saw a number of student-athletes earn postseason honors, including sophomore tackle
Spencer Fano, who was named All-America. In addition, the men's golf team, in the fall portion of its schedule, reached as high as No. 10 in the national rankings, and finished the fall ranked 17th.
Â
The record-setting GPAs continue to parallel the department's tremendous success in NCAA graduation rates. Utah tied its highest figure in the NCAA's GSR
with a score of 95-percent in the most recent report posted in November. It marked the sixth consecutive year that Utah's score has met or exceeded the 93-percent benchmark, and tied for the second-highest mark among all public institutions in power conferences.
