CARLSBAD, Calif. – Braxton Watts turned in a 1-over scorecard in round two of the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa to climb 33 spots into a tie for 97
th on the individual leaderboard.
"He's playing good golf," head coach
Garrett Clegg said. "He played good yesterday but just ran into a couple of major disasters. He avoided those today and that was really the difference. He will probably need to shoot a few under par to advance to the final round. Hopefully he can get off to a good start."
The second round of play opened on the back nine with back-to-back bogeys for Watts to quickly move to 2-over through the first two holes. The senior responded with four even marks before recording his first birdie of the day. On the ensuing hole, Watts returned to 2-over with another bogey but concluded the back nine with a birdie on the No. 18 hole for the second consecutive round. The Utahn hit back-to-back bogeys in the early front nine before coming back with back-to-back birdies two holes later. Watts closed the round with three even marks to finish 1-over for the day and 7-over for the tournament. The Ute currently sits tied for 97
th.
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS STRUCTURE
All 30 teams and six individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following 54 holes of competition, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket thereafter.

Watts will look to make the 54-hole cut tomorrow with the next 18 holes scheduled at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. The top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play.
