Â
EAST HAMPTON, New York– Gabriel Palacios took first place at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, and was a key cog helping Utah storm back starting in round two for a fifth-place finish (20-over 884) through three rounds of play.
Â
"Gabo's win was emotional for us," head coach Garrett Clegg said. "He has been through a ton this year and fighting so hard to get his game to the level of one of the elite amateur golfers in the world. To not only win, but to dominate the golf tournament was incredible. I am so proud and extremely happy for him. He shot the low score in round two, had a three or four shot lead to begin the final round, and shot the low score in the final. It was complete dominance!"
Â
Utah came out of round one tied for eighth place after a slow start, finishing 7-over 295 through the early part of the day.
Â
Palacios led the way from the start, carding 3-under 69 and taking a tie for fourth place through round one.
Â
Jack Jerge (1-over 73), Adam Croix (2-over 74), Ivan Enguita (6-over 78), and Rex Wilson (8-over 80) rounded out the Utes' early efforts at the Hamptons Intercollegiate.
Â
The Utes came out in the second round with a tremendous effort, primarily engineered by Palacios going 6-under 66, despite having to finish two holes on Wednesday morning due to daylight stoppage Tuesday evening. Palacios' second round effort was good enough to give him sole possession of first place, which he never relented.
Â
Jerge also had to finish his second round of play on Wednesday morning before heading into round three play and took a 2-over 74 to the clubhouse.
Â
Wilson, Croix, and Enguita were all able to complete their second rounds before the daylight became an issue, taking 1-over 73, 5-over 77, and 6-over 78 to the clubhouse respectively.
Â
Palacios picked up right where he left off from round two into round three, ending his time at the Hamptons Intercollegiate with a 3-under 69, and a 12-under 204 total to give himself his first individual crown of the 2026-27 season. Palacios' 12-under was a full seven shots lower than the runner-up score and the fifth win of his career, further extending his grip on the program record for career individual victories.Â
Â
Jerge carded 2-over 74 (5-over 221total), Wilson was 3-over 75 (12-over 228 total), Croix was 10-over 82 (17-over 233 total) and Enguita took 9-over 81 (22-over 238 total) to the clubhouse.
Â
"We definitely missed Sergio and have some work to do, but I am proud of the guys sticking with it," Clegg said. "We need to get a lot better, and we will—just not sure how long it will take. The team is excited to continue working hard and getting ready for next week's Big 12 Match Play that we get to host at The Country Club at Salt Lake City."
