TUCSON, Ariz.— No. 15 Utah Gymnastics rolled to their third Big 12 victory over Arizona, 197.125 – 195.975, showing improvement on the road and remaining undefeated in conference competition.
The Red Rocks got off to a respectable start on bars with a 49.250 to take an early lead over the Wildcats (49.050) after rotation one.
Makenna Smith kicked off the rotation with a 9.825 while the back three (
Ella Zirbes,
Ana Padurariu, and
Avery Neff) put up a string of 9.90s for a strong finish to the event.
Utah's ending momentum on bars carried over to vault in the second rotation where they earned a team score of 49.400 to take a 98.650 – 97.575 lead over Arizona.
Clara Raposo ripped off a career-high 9.825 to start what turned into a monster vault rotation for the Utes.
Ella Zirbes earned the high score of 9.925 with
Zoe Johnson close behind with a 9.90. Smith and
Ashley Glynn had back-to-back 9.85s while Neff wrapped up with a 9.875.
The Red Rocks stayed in the lead after rotation three, 147.575 – 146.925, over the Wildcats after going 48.925 on floor.
Neff and Zirbes were the life of the party in Utah's third rotation posting a 9.90 and 9.875 respectively.
Utah rallied in the final rotation to earn their second highest score of the season and its third straight Big 12 win, 197.125 – 195.975 off a season high 49.550 on beam.
Elizabeth Gantner and
Abbi Ryssman earned a 9.85 and 9.875 to start the Red Rocks off on beam. Padurariu added a 9.925 before Neff and
Camie Winger put the exclamation on the rotation with back-to-back 9.95s.
For the second week in a row, Neff took the all-around after earning her second highest career score of 39.625.
