SALT LAKE CITY -
The University of Utah athletic teams completed what is believed to be the best academic semester in school history in December. The 19 varsity Utah sports teams combined for a 3.002 grade point average, the best since the school starting keeping track as an entire department.
Of Utah's 365 total varsity student-athletes, 179 made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.0 and above) and 79 made the Dean's List (3.5 and above).
Leading the way was the nationally-ranked Utah gymnastics team, which compiled a 3.681 fall GPA and had all 10 of its athletes receive a 3.0 or better GPA. Women's skiing was second with a 3.459 team GPA and had the best percentage of its athletes (60%) make the Dean's List.
