SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah athletics department will host its third annual "School is Cool" Jam on Thursday. The event runs from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center and will be attended by over 5,000 sixth graders from the Salt Lake, Granite, Jordan, Murray and Davis School Districts. This year the "School is Cool" Jam will be teaming up with the Lowell Bennion Center's Project Youth.
Head football coach Ron McBride and role model U. of U. student-athletes will provide messages about academic excellence and responsible decision making. BMX bike stunts will be performed. A slam dunk contest by Utah basketball players and performances by the Utah cheerleaders and Swoop will also take place.
The "School is Cool" Jam promotes the importance of education, encourages youth to make responsible decisions in all aspects of life and helps young people realize the importance of goal setting, being responsible for their choices and overcoming adversity.
