SALT LAKE CITY - Marc Amicone, the University of Utah athletics marketing director for the last 16 years, has been named the Utes' assistant athletics director for corporate sales. Utah will hire a new director of marketing to replace Amicone.
Amicone will be responsible for the cultivation of the Utes' corporate partnership program, which includes broadcast sponsorships and in-stadium/arena signage, as well as other promotional opportunities with the U. athletics department. He will be in charge of the sale and management of luxury suites in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Amicone will also be one of the athletics department's liaisons with the Wasatch Front business community.
A Salt Lake City native, Amicone joined the Utah athletics department as its marketing director in 1988 and was promoted to assistant athletics director for marketing in 1996. He also supervised the sports of baseball, golf, men's and women's swimming and diving. Amicone will continue to negotiate the department's radio and television contracts, and the sales and maintenance of sponsorships in his new position.
Prior to his work at the U., Amicone was the general manager of the Salt Lake Golden Eagles Hockey Club from 1985-88, where he was twice named IHL Executive of the Year. Amicone also served in several other capacities with the organization from 1979-85.
Amicone, who played baseball for the Utes from 1976-79, earned a bachelor's degree from Utah in 1980 and a master's degree in sports management from the U. in 1994.
