SALT LAKE CITY -
University of Utah gymnast Theresa Kulikowski and skier Petra Svet have been named to the 2003 first-team Academic All-District 8 At-Large team. The duo is now eligible for Academic All-America status.
Kulikowski, a 2002 Verizon Academic All-American and the At-Large Team Member of the Year, is a 14-time All-American and three-time NCAA champion. She made the All-America first team on the uneven bars and balance beam at the 2003 NCAA Championships and was voted the AAI Senior Gymnast of the Year by the nation's gymnastics coaches. Kulikowski, whose school records include most career 10.0 scores (14) and most career victories (111), graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA in May of 2002 with a double major in exercise and sport science and psychology. She maintained her perfect GPA this past year while taking courses for entrance into the physical therapy program. A three-time Honda Award nominee, Kulikowski recently won an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship worth $6,900.
Svet, a key member of Utah's 2003 NCAA Champion ski team, was a 2002 Verizon third-team All-American. The 2001 NCAA slalom champion, Svet placed 11th in the slalom and 12th in the giant slalom at the 2003 NCAA Championships. She was the MS Society Collegiate Athlete of the Year in 2001 and also won the Toril Forland Outstanding Skier Award. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in finance.
