Three staff members in the University of Utah athletics department have accepted new positions within the department, Director of Athletics Chris Hill has announced. Mary Bowman, the U.'s director of student-athlete support services, has been promoted to assistant athletics director, Bruce Woodbury is now the director of community relations, and Mike Lageschulte is the new associate sports information director.
Bowman has been Utah's director of student-athlete support services for the past three years. She oversees the areas of academic advising, career planning and placement, sports medicine, strength training and the NCAA Life Skills program. Bowman will retain those responsibilities as assistant athletics director.
Woodbury has worked in the athletics department since 1972, serving as assistant sports information director, sports information director and, most recently, director of media relations. In the newly-created position of community relations director, Woodbury will be responsible for a variety of duties, including: directing NCAA events that Utah hosts, an athletic speakers bureau, football and basketball scheduling, designated game day operations, acting as a community liaison for Utah's coaches and the production of the Crimson Club Newsletter.
Lageschulte has been with the Utah athletics department for the past four years as its assistant sports information director. He will assume additional sports information duties in his new role as associate SID and will be the new men's basketball contact.
