SALT LAKE CITY -
Bruce Woodbury, the former sports information director at the University of Utah, has been named a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Woodbury, who currently serves as the athletics community relations director at the U., will be honored at a luncheon at the annual CoSIDA convention in San Diego on Monday.
Woodbury began his sports information career as a student assistant. Upon graduating, he was made the assistant SID and later was promoted to sports information director. He became the director of media relations in 1991, a title he held until he moved into community relations two years ago. Woodbury's career in sports information spanned 27 years, from 1972-99. The CoSIDA award states that recipients must have served a minimum of 25 years in sports information and have either retired or left the profession.
