SALT LAKE CITY - Clear Channel Broadcasting and the University of Utah announced today that following the 2004 football season, Bill Marcroft will be stepping down as the play-by-play announcer for football and basketball games on KALL 700.
Marcroft has been the Voice of the Utes for 38 years, logging thousands of hours on the air--and at least a million miles on the road.
The 2004 regular football season will culminate with a special salute to Marcroft during halftime at the University of Utah/Brigham Young University game November 20th.
Marcroft's years of experience and knowledge will be utilized in special pre and post game vignettes beginning with this year's basketball broadcasts.
"Bill has chronicled the exploits of Utah student-athletes and has been a good friend to the athletes, coaches and staff in this department for many years. His enthusiasm and enjoyment for his job has been unmatched. We wish Bill well in his retirement and look forward to his continued involvement in Utah athletics," said Utah Assistant Athletics Director Liz Abel.
"We have fond admiration for what Bill has done for KALL Radio and our University of Utah broadcasts," said Stu Stanek, Salt Lake City Clear Channel Market Manager. "We look forward to having him continue to play a role in our Utah coverage."
A nationwide search will begin immediately for Marcroft's replacement.
