The purpose of the Athletic Academic Advising Program at the University of Utah is to assist the student-athletes in making the most of their educational experience with the ultimate goal of obtaining an undergraduate degree. Advising procedures and activities are designed to recognize the unique needs and abilities of individual student-athletes and enable them to become independent learners who take responsibility for their academic program and classroom performance.
Athlete Support Services1. Academic Advising
Each team is assigned an academic advisor to help students in class and major selection, seek appropriate tutoring, and track the progress of student-athletes
2. Burbidge Academic Center
Exclusively for student-athletes, the Burbidge Academic Center houses all academic/life skills programs. Advisors' offices, student-athlete lounge, classroom, and the computer and study center can all be found under one roof. During fall and spring semesters, the Burbidge Center is open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
3. Tutorial Services
Free tutoring is available to all student-athletes at the University of Utah. Tutors are available either through the Athletics Department or from the University Tutoring Center.
4. Introduction to Intercollegiate Athletics (ESS 2490)
The purpose of this course is to provide new student-athletes with the information and skills necessary to maximize their educational and athletics experience. The course is coordinated with the NCAA Champs/Life Skills program.
5. Career and Life Planning for Student-Athletes (ED PSYCH 2610)
This course helps seniors create a plan for the transition to a life after college competition. Resume writing and interviewing skills are some of the topics covered.
6. Priority Registration
All student-athletes can register before the general student population. Student-athletes have the first pick of class times and professors.
7. Summer School Athletics Aid
Student-athletes receiving athletics scholarships during the regular school year can apply to have the Athletics Department pay for their summer school classes while receiving room and board.
8. Fifth Year Athletics Aid
Fifth year Athletics Aid is available to scholarship student-athletes who have completed their eligibility in four years.
