SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah and KALL 910 in a joint venture will launch The Red Zone, a daily comprehensive one-hour program on Ute athletics, August 20.
The live show, which will originate from the U. of U. campus, will run year round Monday through Friday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on KALL 910. The program will be presented in a magazine format, featuring the latest news on U. of U. athletics, and interviews with coaches, student-athletes and administrators. KALL 910, the "Home of the Utes," is the flagship station of the Utah Sports Network which enters its 50th season this fall.
Beginning in September, the show will also be aired live on the Internet at www.kall910.com. A link will be provided from the U. of U.'s official athletic home page at www.UtahUtes.com.
Kent Rupe will be the host of the show. Rupe has been a sportscaster in the Salt Lake City market since 1991, working at Fox 13, KSL TV and Radio and KALL 910. For the past two years he has been a part of the Utah women's basketball broadcast team on KALL 910. He is a 1988 graduate of the U. with a degree in communications. KALL 910 Sports Director Brad Stone and "The Voice of the Utes" Bill Marcroft will also be primary contributors.
The Red Zone replaces the Ute Coaches' Show, which in past years aired Tuesday nights on KALL 910. Ute football Head Coach Ron McBride and men's basketball Head Coach Rick Majerus will now be featured weekly in season on The Red Zone.
"I am extremely proud of our 50 year heritage with the University of Utah," said Tom Sly, Vice President and Market Manager for Clear Channel Radio of Salt Lake City. "Our listeners have asked for more opportunities to connect with the University of Utah's great athletic teams. Here it is."
"Being a graduate of the U. and a fan for years, I'm just really excited to be a part of this," said Rupe. "This is really a groundbreaking venture because there isn't anyone else I know of who is doing something like this, and I'm excited to help provide this kind of program to other Utah fans. This show is for them and I think they will really enjoy it."
"We're excited about the unprecedented exposure The Red Zone will give to our entire athletics program," said Utah Athletics Director Dr. Chris Hill. "We have great fans, and we think this show will be a great benefit to them in their efforts to follow our teams year round."
