Don McPherson, the National Director of the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Program and a former NFL quarterback, will be the keynote speaker at the fifth-annual University of Utah Student-Athlete Conference. The MVP workshops have been extremely successful in preventing violence on college campuses. The conference, which will be attended by Utah's 375 varsity student-athletes, will be held on Tue., Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. until noon at Rice-Eccles Stadium. It is sponsored by the U. athletics department, the Alcohol and Drug Education Center and SAMs (Student-Athlete Mentors). The SAM members who helped arrange for the workshop represent all 19 of Utah's sports. They are Theresa Wolf, Brooke Barton, McKelle Stilson, Brooke Babbitt, Travis Hildebrand, Chris Christensen, Howard Christianson, Kimball Christianson, Fisi Moleni, Phil Cullen, Brandon Page, Bernie Hogan, Mondis Ariazand, Carrie Kosderka, Amberly Johnson, Kristy Mayo, Janna Whitman, Amy Ewert, Kevin Zenger, Justin Haugen, Golden Whetman and Jon Wright.
