Name, image, and Likeness is the ability of a student-athlete to be compensated for the use of their name, image, or likeness through a variety of channels such as promotion of a commercial business, a personal brand, or a camp or clinic.
Can the institution organize or pay student-athletes for NIL business opportunities?
No, the institution may not organize or pay student-athletes for NIL opportunities.
How can fans get involved in NIL?
Fans can get involved by having student-athletes promote their business, engage in non-profit activities, or hire them for appearances, among other things! If you have questions on how to get involved please contact Gavin Van Wagoner
Student-Athletes
May international student-athletes receive compensation under NIL?
No, under current institutional policy, international student-athletes may not receive NIL compensation as it may impact their visa status.
Can I hire professional representation for NIL activities?
Yes, you may hire professional representation for NIL activities, they will need to be vetted and approved by Compliance, and may not represent you in any professional athletics opportunities.
What actions or products am I not allowed to endorse?
Tobacco, Alcohol, Controlled Substances (including marijuana), adult entertainment, casinos or gambling, beverages (other than Pepsi), and the following apparel companies: Nike (including Jordan Brand), Rebook, Adidas, New Balance, and Lululemon.
Can Utah provide education to me related to NIL?
Yes, Utah can provide you with education related to NIL. Please reach out to Compliance if you wish to be provided additional education.

As a Booster, what am I permitted to do in the NIL space?
As a booster you are permitted to engage in NIL activities so long as the activity is legitimate and the student-athlete is being compensated for work performed.
