Garrett Clegg will be entering his tenth season as head coach of Utah Golf in the 2026-27 season.

The 2025-26 season proved to be another good one for the Utes under Clegg’s watch, with Utah Golf earning its first No. 1 ranking both as a team and individual (junior Gabriel Palacios) in program history on October 15. Utah went on to finish the year ranked 36^th after earning a team title at the Schenkel Invitational (-21), placing 6^th at the Big 12 Tournament, and stamping a ticket to their third consecutive appearance at NCAA Regionals and seventh all-time in program history.

Utah had two players earn individual titles during the 2025-26 season with fifth-year Davis Johnson taking first at The Wohali (-9) to open the season and Palacios following up the next week at The Tindall (-14).

Down the stretch, senior Brandon Robison and junior Sergio Jimenez proved invaluable to the Utes with Robison posting a bogeyless 36-holes at the Schenkel and Jimenez tying the Big 12 record for the lowest single-round score (7-under 63).

Jimenez was later named First Team All-Big 12 and to the Ping NCAA Division I All-Region Team after placing third as an individual at the Big 12 Tournament.

In 2024-25, under Clegg's command, the Utes posted a record-setting season that included earning four team titles in the Palouse Collegiate (-52), the Tindall Invitational (-33), John Burns Intercollegiate (-22), and the Schenkel Invitational (-22) on their way to a No. 17 final ranking which is the program’s highest finish to date.

Additionally, Utah qualified for their fourth appearance in five seasons to the NCAA Regional with senior golfer Braxton Watts putting up back-to-back rounds of 6-under to beat out all 71 other golfers to advance to the NCAA Championships as a single player.

Watts, along with sophomore Gabriel Palacios were later recognized as PING NCAA Division I All-America Honorable Mentions.

Palacios earned five top-10 finishes (ranking second in program history) and a scoring average of 70.2 (also second in school history) on his way to a No. 49 final ranking. Palacios also notched a place on the All-Big 12 Golf team before turning his attention to the Arnold Palmer Cup where he made history as the first Ute and Guatemalan to tee up in the event.
Sophomore Sergio Jimenez made his own history finishing the year ranked No. 57 and tying with Palacios for second in top 10 finishes while earning the highest scoring average in program history of 70.7.

In the 2023-24 season Clegg's crew held their own, highlighted by their performance at the NCAA Austin Regional where the Utes shot 2-under during the final round, jumping over a pair of squads late on the final day to land in fourth place and locking up a spot at the NCAA Championships. Utah’s effort marked the program's second appearance at Nationals in three years, something Utah Golf hadn't accomplished since 1948-50. During the NCAA Championships, Watts put up the Utes’ best showing, earning a place among the tournament's top nine individuals shooting 4-over through 54 holes, and winning the playoff on the competition's fourth day to advance to the final round of stroke play.

During the regular season, the Utes finished with a team score at or under par six times, including five times in six spring tournaments. They posted a mark of even at The Goodwin to take second, ahead of 29 other teams, including four ranked programs. Utah was led by Watts, who finished on top of a field of 168 golfers to earn his first collegiate victory by shooting 5-under. The Utes followed that performance up with a score of 20-under at the Gaucho Invitational, where Brandon Robison and Javier Barcos tied for second place. Eight Utes achieved at least one top-10 finish during the 2023-24 season.

Barcos ended the year with an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection, making him the first Utah golfer to earn All-Pac-12 status three times.

In 2022-23, Clegg helped Barcos put together a season that earned him an All-Pac-12 Second-Team spot and an invitation to play as an individual at the Morgan Hill Regional. Barcos led the team with a 71.7 stroke average while achieving his first collegiate victory at the Oregon State Invitational and taking fourth at the Pac-12 Championships, which was the second-highest finish by a Ute at the Pac-12 Tournament.

During the 2021-22 season, Clegg guided his squad to the first in a string of program-best seasons culminating in the club's first trip to the NCAA Championships after nearly 35 years without an appearance. The Utes finished top three in five different tournaments, with a season-best second-place showing at the Duck Invitational and the Mark Simpson Collegiate where the team put together a performance that included an 18-under 270 in round one-- the lowest 18-hole team score in program history.

Both second-place finishes represented two of eight tournaments on the 2021-22 schedule where Clegg's crew finished with a score under par with the last instance coming at the Norman Regional, where Utah finished 4-under to take fifth place, clinching their spot at nationals. Two members of the 2021-22 team earned All-Pac-12 recognition, with Blake Tomlinson landing on the all-conference Honorable Mention list and Braxton Watts earning Pac-12 All-Freshman Honorable Mention.

Despite the shortened 2019-20 season due the Coronavirus pandemic, several strong performances landed four Utes in the top-10 all-time in single-season lowest scoring average.

In just the second tournament of the 2019-20 season, the Utes shattered the school record for lowest 54-hole team score at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, shooting 825 (15-under) as a group. The previous record of 840 took place at the Cowboy Classic in April of 2008.

Kyler Dunkle became the first Utah golfer since 2006 to reach the NCAA Championship in 2019, finishing tied for 28^th marking the highest NCAA finish for the program in modern history. Dunkle finished second at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships earning Utah's best individual finish at the event. He was named second-team All-Pac-12, becoming the first Ute golfer to be named to a Pac-12 postseason team. Additionally, Dunkle earned all-region honors after setting the Utah record at three tournament victories over his three seasons with the team (2016-19).

Dunkle and Blake Tomlinson hold three of the four lowest single-season scoring averages in Utah history. Dunkle tied the school record at the time with a 71.2 average in 2018-19, which was lowest single-season scoring average by a Utah player since the 2006-07 season.
Tomlinson earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honors in 2018, becoming the first Ute named to any Pac-12 postseason squad. Later, Tomlinson became Utah's first NCAA Regional qualifier since 2007 and finished tied for ninth at the Stockton Regional.

A native of Bountiful, Utah, Clegg made the move back to Utah after serving as head coach for five seasons at Washington State. Under Clegg’s guidance, the Cougars recorded six regular-season tournament titles and 15 top-five finishes.

WSU notched three, top-10 finishes at Pac-12 Championship Tournaments under Clegg, including a ninth-place finish in the 2016 Championships held at The Country Club in Salt Lake City. The Cougars moved up three spots following the first two rounds of play going on to post its second-lowest stroke total among the five previous championship tournaments under Clegg’s direction.

Before taking the helm at Washington State, Clegg spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Washington. During his time at UW, the men’s golf program captured back-to-back Pac-10 Conference titles (2009, 2010) and concluded both seasons with fifth-place finishes at the NCAA Championships. Washington advanced to the NCAA Regionals in each of Clegg’s four seasons in Seattle and was a three-time qualifier for the NCAA Championships.

With the Huskies, Clegg mentored All-Americans Nick Taylor, Richard Lee, Darren Wallace and Chris Williams. Clegg was heavily involved in all areas of the Washington program including coaching, recruiting, fund-raising and tournament operations with a special emphasis on administrative duties.

Clegg is a former professional and collegiate golfer who competed with the Minnesota Gophers for two seasons where he was a part of the 2002 NCAA Championship team before transferring to Utah for his final two years of eligibility. Clegg graduated from Utah as a two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection, placing third in the conference championship tournament in 2003.

During his career with the Utes, Clegg won the 2003 Nevada Wolfpack Invitational and the 2003 UC Riverside Highlander Classic. Clegg’s two regular-season tournament titles tied for second all-time in the Ute record books. Additionally, Clegg is just one of four Utah golfers to register multiple tournament titles since 1990. Clegg's total of 205 (69-68-68) at the Wolfpack Invitational ranks tied for seventh-lowest all-time in a 54-hole event.

Clegg is tied for fourth all-time with five, top-10 finishes in a season and his eight-career top-10 finishes is tied for fourth in school history. He is also one of just eight Utah golfers to qualify for a NCAA Regional Championship. Clegg tied for 81st-place at the 2004 Regional Championship.

Clegg played in the 2003 U.S. Amateur and advanced to the second round of the 2002 U.S. Public Links tournament. As a professional, he played the 2007 season in the Nationwide Tour after finishing fifth in the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School.

Clegg and his wife Rachael have three daughters, Grace, Sophie and Chloe, and a son, Brady.
