Myia Hambrick is set to begin her fourth season as an assistant coach primarily on floor in 2025-26, and her fifth year overall with Utah Gymnastics.
Last season, Hambrick’s floor team remained steady as a top-10 unit in college gymnastics, finishing the season ranked No. 6 overall.
The Red Rocks, with Hambrick’s help, qualified for their 49th straight National Championship appearance and fifth straight Final Four appearance, finishing fourth place overall in the country. Utah gymnastics is the only collegiate team in the nation that has never missed either competition.
Additionally, the Red Rocks earned their 35th NCAA Regional title as a program, and kept their conference title streak alive at five straight (four Pac-12 titles- 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and one Big 12 title- 2025), winning the Big 12 Regular Season title and Big 12 Championship in their first season competing in the conference.
Hambrick’s floor squad earned their fair share of Big 12 Conference recognitions, placing three athletes (Makenna Smith, Jaylene Gilstrap, and Grace McCallum) on the All-Big 12 floor team, while Smith was also crowned the conference champion on the event for 2025.
In addition, Hambrick’s crew earned three more (McCallum, Smith, and Gilstrap) NCAA All-America nods on floor during the semifinals in Fort Worth, Texas.
In 2023, Hambrick’s floor team posted a 49.475 or better in 10 of the 15 competitions, which included a 49.5 at the NCAA Semifinal and NCAA Final. The floor team posted a 49.530 National Qualifying Score, along with a 49.452 season average, which were the second-best marks on an event by the Red Rocks in 2023 behind the beam team.
In her first season with the Utes, Hambrick guided the floor team to a No. 4 ranking which was arguably the most consistent event for the Red Rocks in 2022, posting a 49.5 or better in nine competitions and a 49.4-plus in all but two meets. Hambrick’s efforts propelled her, along with Jimmy Pratt, and Carly Dockendorf to be the Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2002.
Following her collegiate career at LSU, Hambrick served as a Junior Olympic Optional Coach at Georgia Elite Gymnastics where she has coached gymnasts of all levels and has mentored four 2019 Junior Olympic Championship qualifiers, a 2021 Nastia Liukin Cup qualifier and numerous 2021 regional qualifiers. Additionally, Hambrick worked with gymnasts across the country since 2014 where she choreographed routines and cut music.
During her time competing at LSU, Hambrick collected 20 All-American honors, which is the second most in program history. She earned All-SEC honors all four seasons she competed and ended her career in LSU’s top-10 wins on vault, floor and in the all-around. She amassed 52 career wins, and was the 2015 SEC vault champion and the 2016 NCAA Athens Regional all-around champion.
As a senior in 2018, Hambrick was an AAI Award Finalist, the NCAA Raleigh Regional all-around champion, an All-SEC selection and an eight-time All-American. Hambrick tied for No. 1 in the nation on floor at the end of the regular season, No. 6 on beam, No. 7 in the all-around, and No. 13 on vault and bars capping off a tremendous career.
Hambrick graduated from LSU with a bachelor's degree in mass communication with an emphasis in journalism in 2018, and earned her master's degree in sports management in 2021. She was a NACGC/W Scholastic All-American during her career and four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree.
