A graduate of the University of Utah class of 2020, Lewis made his way back to his alma mater in time for the start of the 2022-23 season and is now in his third year on Jonas Persson's staff. Lewis spent one season at the University of Northern Colorado as the assistant swimming and diving coach for the women's program.
Brody has been Utah's primary coach for the breaststroke group over the last two seasons and also helped Jos Smith coach the long middle distance group in 2022-23. For the 2024-25 campaign, Lewis will lead the distance group, as well as dryland and breaststroke skills. He's been in charge of men's recruiting for the Utes since 2023. In 2024, he recruiting a signing class that was ranked 15th in the nation by Swimcloud.
He served as the primary coach for Jaek Horner during Horner's final two years in Salt Lake City. Horner left Utah as the school record holder in the 100 and 200 breast, achieved All-American status in the 100 breast with a time of 51.35, the first Ute to become an All-American in that event, and reached the US Olympic Trials in the 100 breast.
The list of swimmers who've added top 10 times to the Utah record book under Lewis' watch includes Landon Nava, Matt Wilcox and Finn O'Haimhirgin in the men's 100 breast, Baylor Lewis and Landon Nava in the men's 200 breast, Erin Palmer, Hilja Schimmel, Alyssa Sorenson and Anaelise Hedges in the women's 100 breast and Hilja Schimmel, Anaelise Hedges and Krystal Lieu in the 200 breast.
During his short time with the Bears, Lewis made an immediate impact helping the team break 16 school records and record 81 top-10 performances in UNC history. At the Western Athletic Conference Championships (WAC), Lewis was instrumental in the coaching of eight swimmers to winning a conference championship and guiding another 23 to WAC podium finishes.
Outside of the pool, Lewis assisted the head coach in both day-to-day and long-term operations. Lewis also directed national and international recruiting efforts, dryland programing and team building activities.
Prior to UNC, Lewis served as the head swim coach for East High School for one season and assisted the 11-14 age group with the Swim Utah club for three years. At East High, Lewis coached two of his athletes to win individual 5A State Championships. For Swim Utah, Lewis' expertise helped his athletes reach multiple Utah State Qualifiers, State Championships, Sectional Qualifiers and two of his athletes were named Junior National Finalists.
As a student-athlete at the U, Lewis qualified for the Pac-12 Championships in each of his four years and made the NCAA B Cut Qualifier in 2017, 2018 and 2020. He owns the fourth-fastest 200 breast time in program history as well as the sixth-fastest 100 breast time. In 2020, Lewis qualified for the USA Olympic trials in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.
Academically, Lewis landed on the Pac-12 All-Academic Teams three times from 2018-2020 and was a CSCAA Scholar All-American.
A team captain for the Utes, Lewis was awarded the Utah Athletics Dr. Chris Hill Leadership Award and the Utah Swim & Dive Ute Proud Coach's Award. In addition, Lewis was a University of Utah Pac-12 SAAC conference male representative and the University of Utah's Crimson Council Co-President and Leadership Director.
Lewis hails from Greeley, Colo., where he attended Greeley West High School and was an All-American, Scholastic All-American, 5A State Champion in the 100 breast, two-time conference champion and three-time team MVP. A dual sport athlete, Lewis also competed for the cross-country team where he earned Second Team All-State honors and was tabbed All-Region twice.
