John Jentz was appointed by Director of Athletics Mark Harlan as Utah’s Executive Senior Associate A.D. and Chief Financial Officer in July 2022. Promoted to Deputy A.D. in 2025, Jentz is charged with leading the strategic direction of the department’s business operations, while also overseeing information technology, equipment operations and human resources. In his role he also serves as sport supervisor for the Utes' softball program.

Jentz has been responsible for overseeing athletics business operations throughout his career, including 10 years at Wisconsin, 8 years at Nebraska, 4 years at UCLA, as well as stops at San Diego State, Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside. He has also been the sport administrator for several teams throughout his career, including UCLA’s 2013 College World Series national championship team.

A 1992 graduate of Brigham Young University, Jentz began his administrative career at East Stroudsburg University, where he was a graduate assistant to the Athletic Director while earning his master's degree in sports management in 1993.

John and his wife, Nancy, have five daughters: Kristy, Marin, Emma, Serena and Lindsay, and three grandchildren.
