Dickman Dinger Gives Utah Softball 3-2 Win at Hawaii

Chantelle Ladner earns first collegiate win with six innings of work

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Ally Dickman hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning and Chantelle Ladner went six innings to earn her first collegiate win as Utah topped Hawaii on its home field in extra innings, 3-2.

Julia Noskin started the day with the first of her four hits and Alyssa Barrera walked before a strikeout kept the Utes off the board. Utah put its leadoff runner on base the first four innings but could not break through against the Rainbow Wahine. Noskin brought her average on the season to .418 while Barrera hit .615 for the weekend with eight runs driven in

Meanwhile, Ladner was keeping Hawaii from anything productive offensively but ran into trouble in the fourth. UH's first two hits of the game resulted in a run as Alyssa Sojka singled and Cheeks Ramos doubled her in

In the sixth, Noskin's third hit of the night was a double and BreOnna Castaneda bunted her over to third. With two down, Barrera's grounder to second was bobbled, allowing the tying run to score

During the bottom half, Sojka worked a leadoff walk and was bunted up by Ramos. A single up the middle from Callee Heen put runners on the corners and after a pitching change, Brittnee Rossi lined to Barrera in center. The Utah center fielder tried to double up the runner at third but the throw got away. Sojka headed plateward but Jess Lynch alertly recovered the ball and flipped to Katie Faulk at home for the final out

In the seventh, Faulk reached on a grounder to short and Jordyn Gasper took a walk with two outs. With the lineup turned over, Noskin registered her fourth hit of the night. However, UH kept the ball in the infield that left the game tied for the time being. With the bases loaded, the Rainbow Wahine got a grounder to short, ending the inning

Extra innings started with Hawaii turning a double play but with two outs, pinch-hitter Hailey Hilburn singled up the middle to prolong the inning for Dickman's heroics. The senior outfielder is now hitting .373 on the season, second on the team, and is tied for the team lead with four homers.

UH rallied in its half of the eighth when Sojka tripled with one out. Ramos grounded to the right side to pull the Rainbow Wahine within one but Ladner registered the final out for the win. Ladner allowed just two runs on four hits for the win, while Lynch and Sydney Sandez threw two scoreless innings of relief.
